Napkin Folding: Make your table setting fancy

It is holiday season, and that means typically more family meals.  I end up hosting some of the family meals, but we do not have china and fancy plates.  Ours are the standard white plates from Create & Barrel.  This means we typically "fancy" up the table setting by folding napkins.  We bought some standard white napkins that are used in restaurants, from a restaurant supply company.  Then we have about 4 red, 4 yellow, 6 lavender and a few random ones.  Most of these we got on clearance at TJ Maxx or Pier One.  We mix and match these to add interest to the otherwise boring white table setting.

For Thanksgiving the "Turkey" fold or if turned around the "Fan" fold

It is easy but it does seem to impress people.
Set it on the plate and you are done.



  1. Fold in half the long way so the short end is closest to you and the fold in on your right.
  2. Fold up and down about 1 inch at a time until you about 2-3 inches from the top
  3. Fold in half 
  4. Tuck in the top to form a triangle
  5. Turn it so the bottom of the fold and the triangle are touching the table
  6. Spread out and you are done
  7. Of course you can use an iron to make the folds more crisp, but it is not needed
